Traveling in Comfortable Style with the Celtic Thunder Cruise

In the Golden Age of ocean travel, classic glamour was the norm. For women it meant a hat, gloves and pearls, heels and stockings with a beautiful dress. And for the well-dressed man by her side on deck as they waved goodbye––a fedora and handsome suit would have completed the look. Today, comfortable style, and glamour for Gala Night, is the key when packing for your cruise.

It goes without saying that the savvy traveler dresses for the destination and the weather. When in Rome, do as the Romans do and dress in stylish capris, perfect for jetting off on a retro Vespa scooter. When cruising, think layers––be sure to bring a windbreaker, rain-jacket or cardigan for watching the stunning scenery from the upper deck. While on the Caribbean island, a cotton sundress, sun-hat and beach bag with bathing suit and sunscreen may suit the day’s activities, from shopping to the beach. And don’t forget to pack a second bathing suit (so you’ll always have a dry one), along with a cover-up or sarong for lazy days by the pool. You’ll also need comfortable swimwear if you want to try the new aqua-cycling classes in the infinity pool on the MSC Divina.

While walking around in Nassau, high heels may end up giving you a sprained ankle. Most experienced travelers emphasize the importance of good, comfortable flat sandals or shoes to navigate rough terrain and long days of sightseeing. It’s always a smart idea to bring walking or workout shoes, whether for the ship’s ocean view fitness center, a game of tennis or basketball, or for hiking in the Bahamas. Don’t forget your workout wear and yoga clothes, too, if you wish to take a class.

Many first-time cruisers wonder what to wear for informal evenings in the ship’s elegant main dining rooms. Often the dress code is “resort casual.” For men, a nice dress shirt and slacks are perfect, with or without a blazer. Think navy jacket and khaki pants, or white shirt with dark pants. For women, choose something you’d wear for an evening on the town, whether a dress, a skirt and blouse with a beautiful scarf, or dressy pants outfit. Color coordinated mix-and-match outfits allow you to pack light with one pair of dressy shoes, plus blouses, sweaters and accessories to switch out for a new look each night.

The 'Black Tie' Night calls for your finest cocktail wear, such as a black dress with pearls or vintage necklace, and heels. Or go for your favorite stand-out color––be the “lady in red” or blue silk or shimmering silver. For men, you can’t go wrong with “business attire,” a dark suit and tie with dress shoes. Then relax and enjoy your elegant multi-course dinner, followed by world-class Celtic Thunder Entertainment in the plush Main Theater, dancing and a martini in one of the ship’s chic lounges or bars.

To make your evening even more special, you may want to make a daytime appointment in the MSC Aurea Spa for a facial and Balinese manicure (additional cost). Our make-up artists and hairstylists can also work their brand of make-over magic that’s sure to leave you feeling refreshed and renewed the rest of the cruise. And if you forgot something or need a new scarf, clothing or jewelry, you’re sure to find it in one of our on board shops––including many designer names––or on a shopping spree in a port of call.
